About James Giangobbe

James Giangobbe was born in Syracuse, New York, in 1928. A naturally gifted science student, he diligently pursued his education and earned a medical degree from the New York State College of Medicine in 1956. After completing his medical training, Dr. Giangobbe served as a Captain in the USAF. During his time at Luke Air Force Base, he developed a deep appreciation for the beauty of Arizona, where he ultimately spent the remainder of his life.

During his busy medical career in Phoenix, Arizona, he held various leadership positions, including Chief of Staff at Maryvale Samaritan Hospital and President of the Arizona Academy of Family Practice. After caring for multiple generations of families, Dr. Giangobbe retired in 1992. He remained active in medicine, working as a consultant for the Arizona Board of Medical Examiners until 2000 and serving on the Arizona State Board of Health from 2008 to 2011.

Jim Giangobbe was passionate about golf and writing. When he wasn't on the course, he enjoyed writing and publishing numerous works, including his novels The Steroid Caper and The Benevolent Brain, as well as many nonfiction articles, poems, opinion pieces, short stories, and songs. In his later years, he demonstrated his lifelong commitment to education by lecturing students about the dangers of drugs and smoking. James Giangobbe passed away in late November 2019, just shy of his 91st birthday.
